The much-watched MR startup Magic Leap once completed billions of dollars in financing for its MR headset, but the company fell from the altar in 2020. As of the end of 2019, this Florida-based star unicorn has received generous donations from many big-name institutions, with a financing amount of more than $3 billion. However, the first product that was unveiled in 2017 encountered Waterloo, which was neither well received nor sold out.
Magic Leap repackaged the device as an enterprise product in 2019 and began to directly confront the giant Microsoft. In April of this year, the company launched a restructuring and reportedly abolished nearly half of its employees. Soon after, CEO Ronnie Abovitz announced his resignation.
